"Ihmepaperitehtaan porttirakennelma"

Tehtävä A

Vuonna 2075 on keksitty uusi mullistava rakennusmateriaali: ihmepaperi. Sitä valmistetaan 14,85 m x 10,50 m kokoisina hyvin ohuina valkoisina levyinä, johon mikään väri ei tartu. Ihmepaperitehdas haluaa mainostaa uutta materiaalia ja rakennuttaa ihmepaperista jalankulkijoille kolmiulotteisen porttirakennelman tehdasalueelle. Porttirakennelmalle on esitetty seuraavat suunnitteluohjeet:

• porttirakennelman tulisi herättää kiinnostusta ihmepaperiin rakennusmateriaalina
• porttirakennelman tulisi olla vähintään 12 metriä korkea
• porttirakennelman kautta pitäisi mahtua kävelemään vähintään kaksi ihmistä rinnakkain
• porttirakennelman rakentamiseen saa käyttää vain yhden ihmepaperilevyn, jota saa muotoilla vapaasti esimerkiksi leikkaamalla ja taittelemalla, mutta levystä ei kuitenkaan saa irrottaa palasia.

TOTEUTUS: Suunnittele ja toteuta pienoismalli ihmepaperitehtaan porttirakennelmasta mittakaavassa 1:50 (1 cm pienoismallissa vastaa 50 cm todellisuudessa) noudattaen suunnitteluohjeita. Käytä pienoismallin materiaalina yhtä – ja vain yhtä – valkoista A4-kokoista tavallista kopiopaperiarkkia, joka siis esittää ihmepaperilevyä. 

Liitä kuvaustilanteessa valmiin pienoismallin yhteyteen noin 3,5 cm korkea mittakaavahenkilö. Mittakaavahenkilön esittämistapa on vapaa, ja sitä ei arvioida osana tehtävän suorittamista. Ota pienoismallistasi havainnollinen valokuva mustaa taustaa vasten (ks. ohjekuva alla). Pienoismallin tulee pysyä pystyssä kuvaustasolla.

ARVIOINTI: Tehtävän arvioinnissa kiinnitetään huomiota ensisijaisesti tehtävän luovaan ratkaisuun, materiaalin oivaltavaan ja kolmiulotteiseen käyttöön sekä pienoismallin siisteyteen.

Tehtävä B

Keskellä aurinkoista päivää raju tuulenpuuska sieppaa mukaansa suunnitelmasi mukaan toteutetun ihmepaperitehtaan porttirakennelman juuri, kun olet lähestymässä sitä. Katsot yläpuolellasi liitävää porttirakennelmaa ja huomaat, että tuuli on väännellyt sen muotoja, mutta alkuperäisen porttirakennelman hahmo on yhä tunnistettavissa. Porttirakennelman lähimmät osat ovat sinusta noin kahden metrin päässä. Piirrä, mitä näet tuolla hetkellä.

TOTEUTUS: Lyijykynillä valkoiselle vaakasuuntaiselle A3-paperiarkille.

ARVIOINTI: Tehtävän arvioinnissa kiinnitetään huomiota ensisijaisesti tilalliseen syvyysvaikutelmaan, valon ja varjon esittämistaitoon sekä piirustustaitoon.

Tehtävä C

Tuuli pudotti ihmepaperitehtaan porttirakennelman läheiseen puistoon. Törmätessään maahan porttirakennelma vaurioitui pahoin ja hajosi kolmeen osaan, jotka jäivät makaamaan vierekkäin ja osin päällekkäin. Porttirakennelman jäänteet päätettiin kuitenkin jättää puistoon, koska niiden huomattiin toimivan kasvien alustana ja tukena. Palaat paikalle muutaman vuoden kuluttua ja ryömiessäsi porttirakennelman raunioiden sisään näet, että porttirakennelman kolme osaa muodostavat toisiinsa liittyviä suojaisia ja vehreitä tiloja, joihin siivilöityy kauniisti valoa. Huomaat samalla, että vaurioista ja kasvillisuudesta huolimatta joitakin porttirakennelman alkuperäisiä piirteitä on yhä tunnistettavissa. Piirrä ja/tai maalaa, mitä näet tuolla hetkellä.

TOTEUTUS: Vapaavalintaisella tekniikalla valkoiselle vaakasuuntaiselle A3-paperiarkille.

Tehtävien A, B ja C palautus

(yhteensä kolme A3-kokoista pdf-sivua)

ARVIOINTI: Tehtävän arvioinnissa kiinnitetään huomiota ensisijaisesti tunnelman ja valon kuvaamiseen, toisiinsa liittyvien tilojen ja ryömijän perspektiivin esittämiseen sekä piirustus- ja/tai maalaustaitoon.

Liitä tehtävät A, B ja C (yhteensä kolme kuvaa) yhdeksi kolmisivuiseksi pdf-tiedostoksi. Kuvien digitaalinen muokkaaminen on sallittua. Lopullisen kuvan resoluutio tulee olla noin 300 dpi, kuitenkin enintään 600 dpi.

Palautusohjeet 

Ennakkotehtävät palautetaan sähköisesti Opintopolkuun. Kaikille arkkitehtuurin ja maisema-arkkitehtuurin hakukohteisiin hakeville avautuu hakulomakkeelle liitepyyntö ennakkotehtävistä. Ennakkotehtävät tulee kuvata ja/tai skannata ja tehdä niistä yksi kolmisivuinen pdf-muotoinen liitetiedosto. Tiedosto tulee nimetä muodossa sukunimi_etunimi.pdf. Suositeltava tiedoston koko on 1–100 Mt (Opintopolkuun ladattavien tiedostojen maksimikoko on 1.0 Gt). Hakija on vastuussa siitä, että hänen toimittamansa tiedosto on tarpeeksi laadukas arviointia varten. 

Hakemus Opintopolussa (kevään 2. yhteishaku) tulee olla lähetettynä hakuajan loppuun mennessä 25.3.2025 klo 15.00 (lähetyksen tulee olla valmis klo 14.59). Myös ennakkotehtävät tulee olla ladattuna hakemukselle hakuajan loppuun mennessä 25.3.2025 klo 15.00 (lähetyksen tulee olla valmis klo 14.59). Huomioithan, että Opintopolussa voi olla ruuhkaa hakuajan viimeisinä päivinä, mikä voi vaikuttaa järjestelmän toimivuuteen. On suositeltavaa, että lataat ennakkotehtävät hyvissä ajoin, jotta tehtävät varmasti latautuvat ennen hakuajan päättymistä. Muista myös klikata "Lähetä hakemus", kun teet muutoksia hakulomakkeelle tai lisäät liitteitä.

Valintakollegio arvioi ennakkotehtävät anonyymisti, joten älä kirjoita kuviin nimeäsi; nimen kirjoittaminen näkyville tehtävään voi johtaa ennakkotehtävien hylkäämiseen. 

Ennakkotehtävät arvioidaan asteikolla hyväksytty/hylätty eikä ennakkotehtävistä anneta palautetta. Ennakkotehtävien arvioinnista voi tehdä oikaisuvaatimuksen vasta kevään toisen yhteishaun tulosten julkaisun jälkeen. 

Tärkeää! Ennakkotehtävät ovat valinnan ensimmäisenä vaiheena osa valintaprosessia. Hakijan tulee tehdä ne itsenäisesti ja ilman ohjausta. Yliopistojen henkilökunta ei tarkenna tehtäviä tai anna lisäohjeistusta tehtäviin liittyen.

‘Gate structure of the Wonderpaper factory’

Task A

The year 2075 has seen the development of a revolutionary new building material: Wonderpaper. Wonderpaper is produced in very thin, white sheets that are 14.85 m x 10.50 m in size and to which no colour adheres. The Wonderpaper factory wants to promote the new material and have a three-dimensional pedestrian gate structure built out of Wonderpaper for the factory premises. The design instructions given for the gate structure state that it should

• Spark interest in Wonderpaper as a building material
• Have a minimum height of 12 metres
• Be wide enough for at least two people to walk through it side by side
• Be built out of only a single sheet of Wonderpaper, which may be modified freely by, for instance, slitting or folding; however, you must not remove any pieces of the sheet.

EXECUTION: Plan and build a scale model of the gate structure at a scale of 1:50 (1 centimetre in the model equals 50 centimetres in real life) following the design instructions given. Build the scale model using one – and only one – sheet of white A4-sized plain printing paper, which represents a sheet of Wonderpaper. 

In your photograph of the finished scale model, you must also include an approximately 3.5-centimetre human figure in the proximity of the model to give a sense of scale. You can represent the human figure in any way you wish, and it will not be evaluated as part of the assignment. Take an illustrative photograph of your scale model against a black background (see picture below for instructions). The scale model must be able to stand on its own on the surface of the background sheet.

EVALUATION: The evaluation will primarily focus on the applicant’s creativity in solving the task, the insightful three-dimensional use of material, and the neatness of the scale model.

Task B

In the middle of a sunny day, the Wonderpaper factory’s gate structure, built according to your design, is suddenly swept away by a violent gust of wind, just as you are approaching it. As you look at the gate structure soaring by overhead, you notice that although the wind has distorted some of its features, you can still discern the overall shape of the structure. The features closest to you are about two metres away. Draw what you see at that moment.

EXECUTION: Using pencils, make your drawing on a white, horizontal A3 sheet of paper.

EVALUATION: The evaluation will focus primarily on the applicant’s skill in conveying spatial depth and depicting light and shadow, as well as their drawing skills.

Task C

Wind swept up the gate structure of the Wonderpaper factory and dropped it into a nearby park. Upon hitting the ground, the gate was damaged badly, splitting into three pieces that lay on the ground next to each other and partly on top of each other. It was decided, nonetheless, to leave the gate’s remains in the park, as they were found to serve as a substrate and support for the plants there. You return to the scene a few years later and, when crawling into the ruins of the gate structure, you see that its three pieces have formed interrelated and sheltered lush green spaces, lit by exquisitely filtered light. At the same time, you notice that some of the gate structure’s original features are still discernible, despite the damage and vegetation. Draw and/or paint what you see at that moment.

EXECUTION: Your choice of technique on a white, horizontal A3 sheet of paper.

EVALUATION: The evaluation will focus primarily on the depiction of light and ambiance, the representation of the interrelating spaces and of the crawler’s perspective, as well as the drawing and/or painting skills.

Turning in tasks A, B and C

(three A3-sized PDF pages altogether)

Bundle the tasks A, B and C together (three images altogether) into one three-page PDF file. You are allowed to digitally edit the images. The resolution of the final images should be about 300 dpi (600 dpi at most).

Submission instructions 

Submit your completed advance assignments electronically through Studyinfo (studyinfo.fi). In Studyinfo, when you apply to a study option in architecture or landscape architecture, a prompt will appear on the application form asking you to append your advance assignments. The advance assignments must be photographed and/or scanned and attached as a single three-page PDF file. The name of the file must be in the form familyname_givenname.pdf. The recommended size of the file is 1–100 MB (files uploaded to Studyinfo may not exceed 1.0 GB). The applicant is responsible for ensuring that the file submitted is of sufficiently high quality for evaluation. 

The application must be submitted in Studyinfo (for the second joint application procedure of the spring) before the end of the application period on 25 March 2025 at 15.00 (i.e. the submission must be completed no later than 14.59). The advance assignments must also be uploaded to Studyinfo before the deadline of 25 March 2025 at 15.00 (i.e. the submission must be completed no later than 14.59). Please note that the functioning of the Studyinfo system may be disturbed by congestion in the last days of the application period before the submission deadline. Therefore, it is recommended that you upload your advance assignments well ahead of time so that they are definitely uploaded before the end of the application period. Remember to also submit the application after you have made changes or added attachments to the application form.

Do not write your name on your images, as the admissions committee for architecture evaluates the advance assignments anonymously; making your name directly visible on an assignment may lead to your advance assignments being rejected. 

The advance assignments are evaluated Pass/Fail, and no feedback is given on them.  Any request for administrative review (an appeal to the decision-making authority) of the evaluation may be submitted only after the results of the second joint application procedure of the spring have been published. 

IMPORTANT: The advance assignments are the first stage in the admissions process. The applicant must complete the assignments independently and without guidance. No staff of the joint admissions universities may clarify details or provide additional instructions about the tasks.
